Crossing

by mjpichette

After wandering around looking for colour and being only somewhat successful, I again surprised myself by going for the unexpected shot. I’ve always liked the way traffic lights look at night – especially in the rain. This isn’t quite night, and it isn’t raining, but I like the way the red plays against the bluish background.

Weekend Light Show

by mjpichette

Saturday morning started out cloudy and grey. I didn’t get the camera out until early afternoon. By then, the sun had started to make an appearance. There was a bit of light showing through the clouds in the late afternoon… but by the “golden hour” the clouds had completely covered up the sun.

Perhaps better luck on Sunday…

Well, the early part of the day was looking pretty grey…

Good things come to those who wait… Just before 5 pm I went out in search of the elusive golden hour… Several photographers joined me for the show!

The Doorway

Dark alley

We’re lucky to have this lovely, dark alley just around the corner from our flat. My idea was to have my husband walk down the alley with a torch and snap some photos of the light produced… but when we got there, we found this spooky open door… it was perfect!

The Alchemy of Light

by mjpichette

Sunset is a magical time, when everything feels warmer and golden light shimmers on the sea. The benches are painted green but turn to gold at sunset.

Brighton Rocks

by mjpichette

I’m generally not fond of a shingle beach. I like to swim, and the stones make it hard to get into the water. I have sensitive feet. The beach here can be quite beautiful, however. The warm colours belie the true temperature. It is quite chilly today!

UPDATE: Since someone mentioned the sound of the stones, I thought I’d go out and record them. You can hear the sea as well. It’s a binaural recording so sounds better with headphones.

Big!

by mjpichette

I set out this morning looking to photograph something BIG. I found many things that I thought would make interesting photos… but in the end, this big shovel won my heart! I love the strong angles and the way the bright orange contrasts with the bright blue sky.

Connect

by mjpichette

My husband is writing a serialised comedy ghost story on our blog The Benthic Times and I’m doing the images for it. One image per chapter. I usually take a photo of a real person or thing, or make a collage of several images, and then process the photo using an image processing software called PicSketch. The finished image looks like the one on the right.

Coincidentally, this week’s posting features a secret pile of love letters. It’s always nice getting a message on Facebook or an email from a friend, but I love getting REAL letters or postcards. There is something so special and personal about writing, sending, receiving, and holding a real hand-written letter. It is such a wonderful way to connect with someone.

Spring Preview

by mjpichette

The sun was shining this weekend, leading to leisurely walks by the sea and visits to cute cafes. Seeing the crocuses blooming on the lawns made me feel like spring is on its way!

Solitude

Fisherman

Fishing off the East Sussex coast

The sea on a more peaceful day. I went for a walk looking for examples of solitude, but most of the people who were not with a friend or a dog were on their phone… I think we have forgotten how to spend time with ourselves, just enjoying the scenery and the sounds around us. Luckily, I found this gentleman waiting for a fish to bite.

To enjoy the “3D” sounds of this binaural recording, listen with headphones.

Teatime

A cup of tea and books

A nice cup of tea and some good fiction to read. Bliss!

I love a good cup of tea… and a good urban fantasy. Put the two together and for me, it equals the perfect moment.
